Welcome to the first installment of 'Whaddaweek' - a sometimes blog, about my week. I plan to talk about things I did/watched/listened to this week. It's a sometimes blog because I can already tell I'm not going to be very good at keeping up with it.
Let's start with what this past week held. It was a pretty busy one.
It was actually a fairly productive week, as I crossed off two big things on my 'list'.
The first thing crossed off the list was getting our fridge fixed. We recently went on a family road trip where we drove across Canada from Edmonton (home) to Nova Scotia, and back. It's a long drive, and we did it in an RV sleeping in Walmart parking lots on top of it all.
The night before we left, we cleaned the house - including the fridge. When the fridge was cleaned out, it started making this terrible noise. We thought it was maybe just because it was pretty much empty, so we left it. We'd worry about it when we got back.
Well, we've been home for a few weeks now, and the fridge finally quit working. It was still under warranty though, so we were able to get it fixed. It just took a little longer than we would have liked. But, we are back up and running, keeping ice cream frozen once again.
The other thing I got to cross off my list was getting a new dishwasher. Back in January (before the world shut down from 'the birus' [as my kids call it]) our dishwasher quit working. I attempted a few times to fix it, but had no luck.
It wouldn't have been such a big deal, but when you're a family of 7, cleaning up after meals quickly becomes a nightmare without a dishwasher. We originally planned on waiting it out because we are hoping to do a kitchen reno in the not too distant future. We decided, after about 7 months, that enough was enough.
We went to Costco, and came home with a new dishwasher. After about 4 or 5 different trips to the hardware store, it was finally installed and running. It's amazing how much quicker clean up is now that we are 'dishwasher owners' once again.
In the middle of all that Lindsay and I got to go on a couple dates which always means digging at thrift stores, for treasures. I came back with quite the haul that I'll tell you about at a later time.
As far as what we have been watching, it's mainly been nothing but Home Town on HGTV, and season 3 of Good Girls. Throw in the odd bit of playoff hockey, and some wrestling, and my week was spent.
There was a bunch of excellent music released this week as well, but one album has stood out above the rest: The Weight and The Cost by Be Well. Holy hell is this record good. Driving post hardcore with some of the most anxious and urgent vocals I've heard in a while. It's heavy at times, fast at others, and always melodic.
Some other stuff I've been listening to is Zen Arcade by Hüsker Dü. I've been listening to this record as I'm working my way through Our Band Could Be Your Life. It's interesting because this record was clearly ahead of its time, but also hearkening back to the psychedelia of the late 60s. Well worth the listen.
A record that I missed out on, on its release date, is $ermon from Young and Heartless. This album has got to be my new 'wind down' record after long busy days. It's mellow, but not too mellow. It's pretty straight forward, but also rich with things to discover each time you listen.
What have you been listening to this week?
Whaddaweek it's been. We'll see if I do this again, next week.
