Whaddaweek #11

It's been a few weeks since feji and myself have shared our watching and listening recommendations. It's been a crazy few weeks, what can I say?

I also stayed up too late, last night, watching Saturday Night Live, to get it done on time. What are you gonna do about it?

Anyway, we are back, so quit yer whining, already!

5 Things You Should Be Watching

The Rock

The Rock is one of the greatest action movies ever made and really the best Michael Bay ever did. Nic Cage is excellent and Connery commands the screen. From funny moments to suspenseful. The antagonist, Ed Harris, is sympathetic and relatable. And the fact that they didn't really even have a script is remarkable.

The Expanse

The Expanse is one of the best Sci Fi shows on TV today and has a great unique story. This takes place in a time where humans have colonized the solar system from the asteroid belt to Mars to various moons. Also many scientists say this show is one of the most accurate when it comes to what a future with colonization could look like.

Dave

Dave is a great movie about a normal man being recruited to take the place of a comatose president to keep power in the government. Kevin Kline is wonderful and charming as usual.

Downfall

Downfall is a glorious look into the end of the Third Reich. You've all scene that one particular scene where Hitler throws an epic tantrum with various different subtitles, but guess what? There's a whole movie that goes a long with that.

Election

With Alexander Payne at the helm this wonderful little film with Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon, Election is a great look into the crazy world of high school student class elections and the slow unraveling of a teacher.

5 Things You Should Be Listening To

American Fail - American Fail

The self-titled debut, from American Fail, came completely out of left field. I hadn't even heard of the band, let alone knew anything about this gem. Featuring members of MXPX and Gatsby's American Dream, these 22 songs (in 20 minutes) pull no punches. Read my full review, here.

The Casket Lottery - Short Songs for End Times

Short Songs for End Times marks the return of The Casket Lottery, for the first time since 2012. They didn't miss a beat during that time, in fact this might just be the best we have ever heard the band. Read my full review, here.

Doc Hammer - Terrorizer

Terrorizer is the latest single from San Diego hardcore band, Doc Hammer. It is a punch to the gut, hard hitting, look at police brutality, and systemic racism. It's raw, it's powerful, it's brutal.

The Wonder Years - Brakeless

In celebration of some milestones for The Upsides, and Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing, The Wonder Years released Brakeless. It's a song written, and recorded, in the style of their earlier albums. They went back and worked with those same producers, and tried to get themselves back into the space they were, when they wrote those albums. It's a jam. Read my ranking for The Wonder Years albums, here.

Comeback Kid - Turn It Around

From a song reliving a classic, to an actual classic. Turn It Around from Comeback Kid is a much loved record from the Winnipeg hardcore giants. This record made Aaron and Ryan Leitru's top albums on Facedown Records. Check that out, here.

Whaddaweek it was. Maybe we will do this again next week. Thanks again to feji for his help. If you want to read our previous Whaddaweek, it's here.
